IRON MAN DESTINED FOR BRISTOL EXPO

Just confirmed. Iron Man will be touching down at the Bristol Comic Expo this weekend.  Panini UK Ltd, the official publisher for Marvel and Doctor Who in the UK, are bringing the only original life-sized Iron Man movie statue in the UK.  Fans will be able to have their picture taken with Shell Head himself and Panini will also be giving away free comics and magazines,

Amongst other publications, Panini issue Astonishing Spider-Man, Marvel Legends, Ultimate Spider-Man & X-Men magazines on the newstands, plus the definitive Doctor Who periodical, the long-running Doctor Who Magazine (issue 400 will be released this year) as well as a range of UK graphic novels [their Doctor Who reprint range, especially the Fifth Doctor book, is particularly recommended.] including unique Marvel collections, of which Marvel Platinum: The Definitive Iron Man has just been released.

At the Expo on Saturday original Doctor Who artist Dave Gibbons will also be attending and giving an interview on stage Saturday afternoon.  A lot of interest at the moment in the forthcoming Watchmen movie and Gibbons may just be able to bring attendees up to speed on what is happening with the project.

Panini will also be hosting a special event on Sunday.

Who wants to be a comics writer? Well Panini is hosting a special panel where the general public get the chance to pitch their story ideas. And there’s a major prize on offer - the chance to see the winning story turned into an eleven page strip in Panini’s highly successful SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN magazine! Each contestant will have just two-minutes to present their story idea to a panel of judges consisting of Spectacular Spidey Editor Ed Hammond, writer Ferg Handley and artist Andie Tong - three tough cookies who make Simon Cowell look like a rank amateur! Extra points will be awarded for any props brought along, more points if you turn up in costume, and even more points if contestants bring along cake (we like cake). The story must centre on Spider-Man, but they are free to chuck in any other Marvel Heroes or Villains they can think of! To enter simply email your name and the title of your story to specspidey@panini.co.uk, or pick up an entry form from the Panini stand on Saturday or Sunday morning. This will be on a strictly first come, first served basis so those wishing to attend should make sure they get in quick!

CBBC – the Children’s BBC channel – will be at the Bristol Expo as part of their search for a superhero.   They’re looking for children aged between 9 and 13 to turn themselves into unique, original, never-before-seen superheroes to take part in a new CBBC show, to be hosted by Sam and Mark.  Have you always dreamed of being a superhero?  What would your superhero name be?  What would your costume look like?  What superpowers would you have?  Do you think you’ve got what it takes to go head to head with other Superhero wannabes?
